When do I find out which room I am assigned?
You will find out which room you will be staying in and your roommate information in late July to early August. If you have any other questions about your room or roommate, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail us. Room, roommate and suitemate information is subject to change prior to move in based on availability. |
I applied to live on campus but I am worried that I will not receive my first housing choice. How likely am I to get my first choice?
You have a 50/50 chance of getting your first desired residence hall when you apply for University housing. The University reports on their website that “Historically 50% of residents are assigned to their first choice.” |
I am an incoming student and would like to live at The Castilian but I’ve already signed a contract to live on-campus (or another off-campus dorm). What should I do?
On-Campus and Off-Campus housing will likely differ as to how you may terminate a contract. For on-campus contract assistance, please click HERE. For off-campus housing contract assistance, please discuss your situation with the management company currently holding your contract. |
Where is the closest grocery store?
The closest grocery store is the HEB at the corner of Red River and 41st (north of campus). From The Castilian, go east (right) onto 24th Street. Next, go north (left) onto Guadalupe. Turn east (right) onto Dean Keaton Street. Then, go north (left) onto Red River. Finally, go past 41st Street and HEB is directly to the east (right). |
Where is the closest bank?
For your convenience we have an ATM right here in our building (on the 11th floor) but there are also several ATMs on Guadalupe Street. There are also branches for Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, Bank of America, University Credit Union and a few others. |
Where can I buy stamps?
There is a CVS on Guadalupe Street. If you need to weigh packages, there is a post office on campus – right across the street on the lower level of the West Mall Office Building (2nd building on the right in West Mall). |
How do I find bus schedules?
We will have UT and city bus schedules available at the front desk. You can also go to utexas.edu (search for bus maps) and capmetro.austin.texas.us (Capitol Metro – City of Austin bus routes). |
Do I need an answering machine?
No. You can sign up for a phone plan that offers voice mail through Apogee. |
What do I need for my computer?
You will need a networking card and an Ethernet cord if you are planning to sign up for Ethernet service. We suggest Apogee for all of your internet and telephone needs as this is the provider for UT. With Apogee, students receive a faster connection to University resources such as the digital library and language labs. Without Apogee, these services are only available on campus. Save yourself a trip! Please contact Apogee at 877.276.4339 for further information. |
Where can I put my bike?
We have a bike cage in our parking garage that our residents are allowed to use free of charge. The Castilian allows bikes to be placed in this cage only. Bikes may not be secured to any part of (nor brought into) the building. Make sure you bring a bike lock so you can chain your bike to bike racks both in the bike cage and on campus. |
Do I need to bring a shower curtain?
Yes, please bring a shower curtain and shower rings. You may wish to contact your roommate and suitemates concerning these types of shared items. |
How do I receive packages?
When our residents receive a package, they are notified by a note in their mailbox and are asked to present a Government Issued ID at the front desk (11th floor) to pick it up. |
Do I have to move everything out during holiday breaks?
During your lease term, your belongings do not have to be moved according to the guidelines of your lease contract. |
Can I stay here in the building during the breaks?
During your lease term, you do not have to move according to the guidelines of your lease contract. You must simply provide written notification of your intent to stay.
For spring residents, if you renew for a consecutive term (Summer Session), you may continue to reside at The Castilian but may be required to relocate rooms. |
Can I move in early if I am rushing?
If you are interested in moving in early, please contact our staff. We would like to arrange your accommodations by notifying our Maintenance and Housekeeping staff of your early arrival. If there is a space available for you for the time your requested, it will be at $40.00 per night/per person up to the Saturday prior to your lease contract date. We cannot guarantee all requests. |
